Meet Simon Gibson

Simon battled through injuries to both hamstrings to complete his 300km target and finish top of the fundraising leaderboard for last year’s challenge.

The 53-year-old raised £3,700 in honour of his father Alan, who is living with Alzheimer’s disease.

Simon said: “Following my dad’s diagnosis with Alzheimer’s around 10 years ago, I am acutely aware of the need for more funding for research into this devastating disease.

“Alzheimer's Research UK is working hard to find the preventions and treatments so urgently needed, and I was proud to take part in Cycling Down Dementia and do something positive to help the charity achieve its goals. I was also delighted the hamstrings held up!

“Wind, rain, snow and ice couldn’t stop us! I say ‘us’ as everyone who supported me was with me throughout the challenge.

“I enjoyed sharing my rides on Twitter and with the Cycling Down Dementia community on Facebook, and loved the support I received from friends and family and other people taking on the challenge.”

Simon has been a supporter of Alzheimer’s Research UK for several years and was made a Champion of the charity in 2014 for his exceptional efforts raising funds and awareness for dementia research.

He is Chief Investment Officer at wealth management firm Mattioli Woods, who are a corporate partner of Alzheimer’s Research UK.
